Exploring  Global Communities: Interdisciplinary Themes

Focus

Interdisciplinary, multi-perspective approach  to learning -- based on collaboration and interaction.

Overview  of Objectives

1. Facilitate ability to weave many subject  areas around a country: geography, science, culture, language, history,  multiculturalism, and of course, many others (reading, writing, math,  etc.).

2. Develop, through an interdisciplinary study of one  country, awareness in multiculturalism, diversity, themes across human  development, and the connectedness of knowledge within and across various  contexts (i.e., social, anthropological, political, scientific, etc.).

3. Utilize a major facet of each country to create a  "foundation focus" that will anchor the themes. (Example:  "Bermuda: Wildlife and Biology" - Bermuda's rich biology is the  perfect foundation to launch diverse study.)

Online  Education: Developing Successful Web-Based Learning Environments

2. Help educators understand the implications for  changes in pedagogy, curriculum, and assessment that Web based  technologies are bringing.

(To include, for teachers of  HS & college students: help teachers/professors utilize the Web to  enhance the teaching-learning process - whether to augment their course or  to deliver complete online courses.)

Developing  Community: Using the Web for Research, Collaboration, and Collegiality

Focus

Bring professionals in particular educational  fields together to: (a) develop resources, (b) research issues, (c)  enhance collegiality and community, and (d) build Websites to further  these areas of development.

Overview  of Objectives

1. To stimulate interaction and collegiality  among professionals within a particular academic field, and to build a  network of colleagues for longer-term professional development and  relationships.

3. To help the educators create something useful during  the course that can be effectively utilized for a considerable period of  time (after course is over) - for both professional development and  classroom instruction & activities.

4. Develop competentency in using the Web as a research  tool, and in learning to use Website-building software (e.g., Front Page,  Net Objects), as well as integrating other technology into a Website and  their classroom (e.g., software & tools that help utilize photos,  graphics, presentation platforms, etc.).

Graduate credit is  available. As well, earn recertification points for your school system  and license. Most states, counties, and school systems have their own  methods for assigning and counting professional development  "points."
