Campers were treated to a visit by Gen. Colin Powell on the last day of camp. Gen. Powell asked tough questions about the health of the river to campers. Andy spoke up to show the General the large number of SAV's the campers had collected right in Alexandria. The General was impressed with the students ability to present a picture of the ecology of the river based on what they had collected. Though there were areas of low oxygen and dead fish, the river supports a huge array of life, including a channel catfish that the General got to hold. |
