Here, five campers prepeare to put the bottom on their wooden boat.  Over the period of one week, the campers built two Bevin rowing skiffs using traditional tools. The students learned the craftsmanship of boat building through hands on experience.

After completing their boats, campers learned how to row them on the Potomac river.  From their boats, campers learned about the ecology of the Potomac river from such activities as fishing and monitoring water quality. This is a shot of campers rowing deep into a freshwater marsh, where they explored the abundant life and did a trash pickup. Spatterdock, with it's blooming yellow flowers, surrounded the boats
