The College of Exploration (TCOE) and the Bermuda Biological Station for Research (BBSR) are collaborating on a number of distance learning programs.  These programs are designed to use the latest video and web technologies to provide opportunities for teaching and learning about the world's oceans. 

Teacher Programs.  We have a number of initiatives being developed. The first is an NSF funded project in collaboration with Florida International University. The second is a program is for middle school teachers on coral reefs.

Linking Schools.  Schools in Bermuda and in the UK are linked through video conferencing.

1998 Year of the Ocean Activities.  Students from Bermuda speak by video conferencing with visitors and students at the Southampton Oceanography Centre.    Students wrote about their thoughts on the oceans and contributed pictures.

Coral Web Site. BBSR and TCOE have received a grant from the Goldman Foundation  to create a web site for teachers on issues concerning coral reefs. This site is being developed to offer teacher professional development and curriculum ideas and materials.
