Amy Albanese, M.Ed – Online Faculty, College of Exploration
I received my undergraduate degree in Geography at Virginia Tech in 1997, and continued my education there earning a Master’s Degree in Education for Curriculum and Instruction in 1999. Upon graduating I began my teaching career in Fairfax Country Public Schools in Virginia teaching 3rd grade. When my husband and I relocated to Denver, Colorado, I continued classroom teaching, but this time in a private school for gifted children. I also began my own studies of gifted education at the University of Denver. It was during this time that I discovered my passion within education as an advocate for gifted children and promoting higher level thinking in all students. After 4 years away, my husband and I decided to start a family so we moved back to Virginia where I returned to work for Fairfax County Public Schools. This time, my focus would be gifted education as an Advanced Academics Resource Teacher in an elementary school and then as an Instructional Support Teacher for Advanced Academic Programs working in the county’s central office. During this time I also taught on-line courses for teachers that focused on gifted education and finding giftedness in all children.
Tracy Kelly, M.Ed – Online Faculty, College of Exploration
I received my undergraduate degree in English Education from the University of Delaware in 2000 and my Master degree in Higher Education Administration from the University of Massachusetts in 2003. During my time at UMass, I worked at the Center for Teaching as a consultant for the Midterm Assessment Program and as project support for the Best Practices of Online Teaching and Learning committee. Through working with professors who were constantly trying to better their approach, I felt the need to get back into the classroom. Since leaving UMass, I’ve received a gifted endorsement and have been working with gifted students in grades K-8, as well as teaching online gifted education courses. In my work, I’ve found that by engaging students and giving them responsibility for their own education we can foster creativity and critical thinking. By being an advocate and a partner in the learning process, students are able to reach new heights and tap into their full learning potential.
