Slide 6. 1998 SAMPLING AT LA PUSH AND KALALOCH
MESSAGE: LIST SAMPLES TAKEN AND SHOW SAMPLE SITES
Two sites were chosen for monitoring purposes: La Push and Kalaloch beach. These two sites were 2nd beach near La Push, WA and Kalaloch beach about 40 miles south of La Push. Kalaloch was selected because in 1991, this area produced very high levels of domoic acid in razor clams and over the intervening 8 years has continued to show spikes of domoic acid in clams when other beaches have remained clean or at very low levels.
Samples taken for this study were:
- Water and shellfish for toxin analysis
- Water samples for phytoplankton cell counts and enumeration
- Water samples for nutrient levels and chlorophyll
- Weather observations were also recorded
We wish to acknowledge Mitch Lesoing and June Schumack of the Quileute Indian Tribe for their time and effort in collecting and processing the samples and for the time consuming task of counting and identifying phytoplankton.
