Cornucopian Paradigm
1. The mind is the ultimate resource—we can
solve any problem.
2. Progress happens via economic growth,
which will continue unabated and eventually
allow all people to be materially well-off.
3. This would lead to a global “Benign
Demographic Transition,” as people decide to
have fewer children.
4. All societies would remain populous, but
prosperous, and global political tensions
would be minimal.
These assumptions narrowly constrain the range of possibilities
considered by the economic and traditional human population
models, and are not supported by scientific evidence.
