 Moray Eel

The moray eel is an exciting fish to encounter on the reef!  These animals have no fins on their stomach (ventral) or sides (pectoral) and have smooth skins without the usual fish scales.  They hide in holes during the day and open and close their mouth which we interpret as threatening but is really just how they move water past their gills for breathing!   At night they leave their hole and hunt.
