Cymopolia barbata is very common in shallow water and we see it covering the rocks all around the Bio Station. This green algae (Chlorophyta) grows about 10cm high and has tufts at the end of stems that are lightly calcified or covered with calcium carbonate, the same chemical that the coral skeleton is made from.
