National Science Education Content Standards
The content standards of the National Science Education Standards (NSES) outline what students should know, understand, and be able to do in the natural sciences during the course of K-12 education. Classroom BATS aims to help middle-school (5-8) and secondary-level (9-12) teachers address the content standards with their students.

The NSES content standards are divided into eight categories, each of which is further divided into specific content  areas. The following table links the content categories to their detailed descriptions in the on-line version of the NSES. Each category provides links to the appropriate grade-level descriptions. For most content standard areas, separate descriptions exist for grades 5-8 and 9-12. However, content areas in the Unifying concepts and processes category are constant throughout the duration of K-12 education. Thus this category has but a single link.

CBATS lesson plans feature hyperlinks to the appropriate content areas on this page. This helps teachers understand how the CBATS lesson plans relate to the content standards.
