Ocean Literacy for All - Sustaining Sustainable Development Goal 14 through Ocean Science Education and Ocean Literacy
Registration is now open for the December 4-5, 2017 International Ocean Literacy Conference to be hosted by the UNESCO Venice office and Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC) in collaboration with the Consortium for Ocean Science Exploration and Engagement (COSEE) and the College of Exploration.
The Conference will be honored by the presence of Vladimir Ryabinin, Executive Secretary of the IOC-UNESCO; Gesine Meissner, Member of the European Parliament; Peter Thomson (TBC), UN Special Envoy for the Ocean; Barbara Degani (TBC), Vice-Minister of the Environment and Protection of Land and Sea of Italy; and Francesca von Habsburg, Thyssen-Bornemisza Art Contemporary.
Conference themes will include:
• topics covered by the UNESCO Ocean Literacy for All voluntary commitment to the June 2017 UN Ocean Conference;
• the development of an Ocean Literacy for All road map for the next three years, in preparation for the next UN Ocean Conference; and
• ways and means by which the Ocean Literacy for All initiative will best support the UN's Sustainable Development Goal 14 and develop in concert with the proposed International Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development (2021-2030)– the ocean we need for the future we want, a voluntary commitment by the IOC.
All relevant information regarding the conference, including documentation, presentations, and the list of participants, will be made available on the meeting website as they become available. A draft agenda is currently posted.

Thanks to financial support from the Swedish Ministry of Environment and Energy, there is no conference registration fee. There is limited travel support, and delegates from developing nations will be given priority. You may indicate your request for travel support on the registration form.
