Ceramium spp. are mostly small, filamentous red algae (Rhodophyta) that are commonly found growing on larger plants. (An organism that lives on the surface of a plant is called an epiphyte. "Epi" means on the surface and "phyte" means plant. Can you guess what epizooic means?)

Ceramium spp., like many other algae, produce chemicals that make them taste bad so that they are not eaten by herbivores.
